38) Quit Locking in the Loss
I poured my heart and soul into MusclePharm and it didn’t work out.
We all have situations that don’t work out the way we want them to. It could be a relationship, work, or business. It’s going to happen to everyone. If you lock in that loss or lock in that feeling, it’s going to hinder your overall progress.
A few months after Arnold left, I was fortunate enough to sit down and have breakfast with him. Here’s what he said to me:
"It's all about how you stand up. It's all about what you do next. It's all about moving forward with the proper confidence. It's about your skills and your ability. A lot of things don't work out the way you want them to."
Succumbing to those harmful feelings would have hindered everything past that point. Instead, I said, “Boom, this was a part of my life. Now it’s over. It’s a hard stop.” I’ll take what I learned, I’ll take what I know, and I’ll keep it moving.
This goes for everything in your life. If you lock in that loss, you lock in that feeling, you lock in whatever it was, then it’s just going to keep you from becoming the next better version of yourself. It’s just what it is.
Bring what you learned forward and say, “Now I have a new confidence. I’m going to build towards something else.” It’s all about how you stand up. It’s all about how you lock in on the new path.
Everyone has a loss. It’s only a true loss or failure if you lock it in — and if you quit.
Thank you for this message. Will use this message for my football players and my own son. Appreciate the great product line but also the motivation that comes along with Max Effort.
